Crusader Club House

Yachts ride at anchor beneath the walls of the medieval crusader Castle of St. Peter in BodrumAegean Turkey.

Built in part with marble salvaged from the great Mausoleum (the monumental tomb of King Mausolus of Halicarnassus), the castle still holds marble plaques bearing the coats-of-arms of the crusader knights who garrisoned the fortress. You can even see the graffiti they carved with their dagger-points into the limestone of refectory walls.

The castle is now the world’s foremost Museum of Underwater ArcheologyShips and cargoes from thousands of years ago have been discovered, raised from the depths, revealed and displayed here.
