Ever wonder what a Turkish cinema looks like?
Yeah, well, I didn’t actually think you spent your time wondering that. But in any case, here’s one of the more popular movie palaces on İstiklal Caddesi(no. 209) between Taksim Square and Galatasaray Square. Note the predominance of Hollywood fare, with a nod to Turkish cinematic art as well.
Actually, Turkey was an early entrant into the world of cinema. The first Ottoman movie was filmed shortly after the Lumière brothers developed the art. There’s still a thriving movie industry in Turkey today.
