Pointed Castle
That’s what its name means, and so it is: a natural castle of volcanic tufa, hollowed out and used as a fortress for centuries. It’s the highest point in the region and stands as a landmark.
Today Uçhisar is an interesting Cappadocian town not far from Göreme Townand Göreme Open-Air Museum. The people of Uçhisar make their living from farming and tourism.
Some of its historic old stone houses have been restored as hotels, inns and rental villas. Many have cave rooms.
From the summit of the “castle” itself you get the best view of Cappadocia(except for the ultimate view: from a hot-air balloon drifting above the lunar landscape.)
