Catch ‘Em & Eat ‘Em

Fishermen on the upper deck, seafood diners on the lower deck: Istanbul‘s Galata Bridge across the Golden Horn between Eminönü and Galata (Karaköy)has been that way for over a century.

This is the new bridge, a sturdy structure that replaced the old pontoon bridge that had lasted a century.

Actually, the fish you dine on in the restaurants under the roadway are caught farther out to sea. The fish you catch from the upper deck are usually small, and heaven knows what they’ve ingested in the urban waters at the mouth of the Golden Horn.

Above all looms the Galata Tower as it has for well over a thousand years.
