Çengel Han Koç Museum, Ankara

Last Updated on May 3, 2019

Just a few steps from the main portal of the Ankara Citadel is the Çengel Han Rahmi M Koç Museum().

Located in a former caravanserai built in 1522, its displays include Engineering, Road Transport, Scientific Instruments, Maritime, Everyday Life, and others.

The museum was founded by Mr Rahmi M Koç, scion of one of Turkey’s most prominent and successful business families, whose fortunes were begun here in the Çengel Han generations ago, so the historic building has special meaning for the family.

There’s a museum shop and two places for meals: the Divan Café (with a delightful outdoor terrace), or the sophisticated Divan Brasserie in the courtyard.

The museum is open daily except Monday from 10:00 am to 17:00 (5 pm), till 19:00 (7 pm) on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Admission costs TL3, plus a ridiculous TL5 for a camera: in effect, the museum charges you a fee for publicizing it with your pictures.

While you’re up here on the hill with the Citadel, be sure to visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations, one of Turkey’s finest museums.
