The Hotel Niles has long been a favorite of mine because of its interesting location, excellent service and good value. (More…)
The Niles now has superb junior suites designed in a refined Ottoman style with an artist’s touch and finished with high-quality all-natural materials.
Each suite has mahogany floors (heated from beneath in winter), antique-style light fixtures, İznik-faience trim, hand-painted Ottoman ceiling borders, and luxurious drapes, sheers and light-blocking curtains on the two windows and two balcony doors.
The king-size bed boasts fine linens, a light cover as well as a cozy duvet, and a pillow menu—choose your preferred size, filling, etc.
The capacious cushion-covered sofa in the window nook of each suite is actually a single bed, artfully disguised by the rich cushions. This is no fold-out couch, but a complete full-size single bed: remove the cushions and it will comfortably accommodate an adult or child.
Each suite is equipped with supplies for making coffee and tea, and a minibar refrigerator that you may stock with beverages as you like.
The Kurna, an Ottoman-style hamam bowl, and copper hamam tası. |
The Turkish hamam-style bathrooms are simply beautiful: striped Marmara marblethroughout—walls, heated floor, washbasin, accented by plate glass and mirrors. The spacious shower includes an Ottoman hamam-style kurna (splash bowl) and taps. More…
Besides the heated floors for winter, each suite has its own remote-controlled programmable climate unit for air-conditioning, fan and supplemental heating.
Electrical outlets/points abound in each suite, a welcome feature much appreciated by travelers who need to charge laptops, mobile phones, camera batteries, PDAs and other devices. Wifi Internet is free, and available everywhere.
The suites are reached by their own glass-sided, wood-trimmed elevator.
If you have an artistic eye and sensibility, and you want your Istanbul stay to be especially memorable, I think you’ll find the Hotel Niles junior suites an excellent choice and value.
(Note: these junior suites are different from, and superior to, the Hotel Niles “Superior”-class rooms.)
You should also know that the Niles has two small duplex suites (maisonettes): salon with kitchenette and day bed on the upper floor, and master bedroom and large marble bathroom below ground. Each suite has its own Ottoman-style hamam with heated göbektaşı, the warmed marble slab for relaxing as the steam works its wonders). These apartments are small, but quite nicely done, and can sleep up to four people.
