Tünel Square is a surprisingly good place to look forhotels and apartments/flats in Istanbul.
Its Beyoğlu location, at the southwestern end of Istiklal Caddesi (), means that you're close to all the attractions of "real" (as opposed to "tourist") Istanbul, including café-bars, restaurants, music clubs, boutiques and shops.
It also has unexpected transport advantages. Although İstiklal Caddesi is a pedestrian-only avenue, taxis can pass right by the square, the M2 Metro (and Nostalgic Tram) connect Tünel Square with Taksim Square.(There's an entrance to the Şişhane Metro station just off the square next to the Swedish Consulate-General, but you must walk underground for about five minutes to actually reach the station).
The historic Tünel underground train connects Tünel Square with Karaköy Square on the Golden Horn, and the Karaköy stop on the highly-useful Bağcılar-Kabataş tram.
Much more than better-known Taksim Square, Tünel Square is where young Istanbul comes to play, shop, sip, chat, and stroll. It's a lively area but not a noisy one.
