The fine sand beach at Samandağ, 27 km west of Antakya on the Mediterranean, is broad and enticing until you notice the abundant litter on it, much of it washed up by wind and waves from other locales.
Visitors come to Samandağ (sah-MAHN-dah) to walk on the beach, perhaps to swim, and to sit in beachfront restaurants and cafes to enjoy the view, the cool breeze, and restful atmosphere.
