Last Updated on April 8, 2024

The Çeşme Peninsula is Turkey's one of the most popular tourist destinations, with crystal clear waters, warm Aegean climate, sandy beaches, and other natural wonders. There are many cafes, restaurants, and adventures awaiting visitors, and each district (Ilıca, Alaçatı, and Çeşme) offers a unique experience.

While the peninsula is blessed with blue flag beaches all around, Ilıca is known as the beach resort district of the Çeşme Peninsula. Ilıca's long, golden sand beach is the main appeal for vacationers and is loved by many worldwide.

What is Ilıca Beach Like?

Ilıca Beach is a public beach, and the entrance is free. Across the beach, there are many cafes, restaurants, and bars waiting to serve guests after a long day on the beach.

We have to note the scenery of Ilıca Beach is out of this world, adorned with magnificent broad bay-ringed mountains, tortoiseshell patterned water, and snow-white sand; it offers visitors worldwide to relax on the beach and bathe in the warm salt water.

Top Sights

There are many beautiful sights to witness in Ilıca. Let’s look at the most popular locations:

Ilıca Beach: This public beach is the primary choice for visitors, with sandy beaches and a perfectly clear sea.

Çeşme Castle: Just minutes away from Ilıca, Çeşme Castle is a popular spot to have a panoramic view of Çeşme. There is also a museum inside the castle.

Altınkum Plajı (Beach): If you are looking for a more sheltered coast, Golden Sand Beach is a good choice, with crystal-clean water and sandy beach. However, traveling without a rented car can be difficult.

Delikli Koyu (Bay): Another less crowded beach is located at Delikli Koyu, with a breathtaking scenery of white hills. The water is also clean and warm.  It can also be a bit challenging to visit without a car, though.

Cleopatra Koyu (Bay): Near Delikli Koyu, you can also try visiting Cleopatra Beach, which has spectacular sights.

Alaçatı Yel Değirmenleri Parkı (Windmill Park): If you ever feel like taking a break from beaches, this windmill park is the perfect place to take your coffee and enjoy a 360 view of the region.

Alaçatı Çarşı: Alaçatı is another great spot to take a break from beaches, and enjoy a stroll through the pedestrian area, full of cobblestone streets and many delicious eateries.

Lodging

The Çeşme Peninsula is a world-famous tourist destination in the world. There are many five-star hotels and resorts in the region. Also, hundreds of seaside villas and hostels supplement the hotels for lodging.

Cuisine

Inland from the beach is a lively commercial area of shops, restaurants, and services. You can find many world-famous restaurants as well as budget eateries in Ilıca. We recommend trying the famous local taste, Kumru (A sandwich made with cheese, sausage, and toppings special to the Aegean region.) Also, Çeşme Peninsula is famed for Sakız (mastic gum), so you will see many products with mastic gum. You should try their Damla Sakızı Kahve (Turkish Coffee with gum mastic) and ice cream with mastic gum.

Transportation

Minibusses travel all day and evening between Çeşme, Ilıca, and Alaçatı, linking these holiday districts and making it fairly easy to spend the day in one and the night in another.

If you don't fancy public transportation on a summer day (as one might), you can also get a taxi fairly easily. However, be ready for high fares compared to cities. Traveling with a rental car or motorbike (as it is a popular transportation method in the Çeşme Peninsula) is the most practical option. You can spot many rental services in the region, so you don't have to book beforehand.
