I love Turkish trains and have ridden them happily for over 50 years.

The Turkish State Railways (TCDD Taşımacılık) is great at running trains, but not so great at communicating train information to the world— especially not to foreign visitors who know no Turkish.

The Turkish State Railways (TCDD) website is still much inferior to simple 19th-century printed train schedules. It is possible to extract certain bits of information from the website, but you may haveto work at it.

Train Schedules

Although you can, in principle, find schedules for every station served by Turkish State Railways by using the TCDD's EYBİS electronic reservation system, this can be time-consuming and it has its pitfalls.

Train names, types of wagons/cars hauled, and simple Origin and Terminus schedules can be found by going to the TCDD website homepage and clicking on YOLCU in the navigation bar at the top. From the drop-down list, select Trenler (Trains), and scroll down the page to these:

Yüksek Hızlı Tren

These are Turkey's High-Speed Trains serving AnkaraEskişehirIstanbulKonya, and cities in between.

Anahat Trenleri

Main Line traditional trains between cities serving AdanaAfyonAnkaraDiyarbakır, Elazığ, ErzurumEskişehirIstanbulİzmirKarsKayseriKonya, Kurtalan, Malatya, and Tatvan.

Bölgesel Trenler

Regional trains serving Adana, Adapazarı, Afyon, Alaşehir, AmasyaAnkara, Aydın, Batman, Denizli (for Pamukkale), Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Eskişehir, Ereğli, İskenderun, İslahiye, İzmirKaramanKonyaKütahya, Manisa, Mersin, Nazilli, Ödemiş, SamsunSivasTatvan, Torbalı, Tire, and Zonguldak. Schedules for each route are downloadable PDFs only.

Banliyö Trenleri

İstanbul's Marmaray cross-Bosphorus trains, and Ankara's Başkentray suburban trains.

Uluslararası Trenler

The one daily international train to Europe, from Istanbul to Bulgaria and Romania, with connections to other European countries.

Train Terms

VAGONLAR = Train car/coach types

HAREKET SAATLERİ = Departure/arrival times

K: = Kalkış (Departure; times are 24-hour clock)

V: = Varış (Arrival)

MESAFE = Distance

BU TRENLERDEKİ VAGON TİPİ = Types of cars [services] on this train

Pulman = Pullman car (seats in rows, as on a plane)

Kuşet = Couchettes

Örtülü Kuşet = Couchettes with blanket & pillow

Yemekli = Dining car

Yataklı = Sleeping car

Üst - Alt = Upper - Lower Berths (in a sleeping car)
