Antalya has a developed light tram system that goes through most of the major spots in Antalya. The modern AntRay is perfect for getting around the city without a hassle; meanwhile, the Nostalji Tramvay (Nostalgic Tramway) is chosen by those who want to enjoy scenic views of the city. These two tram lines will be useful for your visit regardless of your choice.
Antalya's Modern Train Line: AntRay
Antalya's major light rail line is the AntRay, a streamlined Metro-like operation running from Fatih on thenorthwest of the city center via the Otogar (bus terminal) and Meydan due east of the center to Antalya Airport, Aksu (for Perge) and EXPO 2016 Antalya (map).
Riding AntRay, you can journey easily between the Otogar (bus terminal) and the city center, including Kaleiçi (old Antalya/town). Simply board an AntRay tram at the İsmetpaşa stop, just north of the intersection of İsmetpaşa Caddesi and Cumhuriyet Caddesi (). The trip to the Otogar (Bus Terminal) takes about 30 minutes, which includes a 10-minute walk through a tunnel and aboveground to the Otogar entrance.
Antalya's Historic Tram Line: Nostalji Tramvay
The original Nostalji Tramvay (Nostalgic Tram) starts on the shore to the west of the center at the Antalya Museum near Konyaalti Beach and Antalya Beach Park (the Rixos Downtown Antalya Hotel and other large, modern luxury hotels are here as well).
The tram runs eastward along the main seaside boulevard to the city center at Kalekapısı, a convenient gateway to Kaleiçi (Old Antalya) and the Tuvana Hotel. It then continues east and south and passes Hadrian's Gate and Karaalioğlu Park before passing near the deluxe Ramada Plaza Antalya Hotel and ending on the way to Lara Plajı (Beach) to the east. There are only two tramcars. They run along a single track, passing one another at a short length of double track near Kalekapısı.
Both trams depart on the hour and half-hour, 7:00 am to 23:00 (11:00 pm) from the termini (east and west), and reach Kalekapısı between 10 and 15 minutes later (so if you want to catch the tram at Kalekapısı, be there at 10 minutes past the hour or 20 minutes before the hour). The one way fare is the same as any other public transportation method in Antalya.
Buying a Tram Card in Antalya
Public transportation cards in Antalya are sold from a booth at one end of each major station. The card cost is affordable, and getting a card is straightforward. However, note that the fare card booths are open only from 7:30 am (10:00 am on Sunday) until 19:00/7 pm. Outside of those times, it is difficult to buy a fare card. Also, you will need Turkish lira to purchase a card.
